What should I do. I have some money from the holidays and I'm looking to buy one or the other to make quality shots of a distance between my 3 iron and driver. 5 wood or 3 hybrid? Include any make and model of club of preference if you so choose.

  1. I own a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid and prefer the hybrid because of the playablilty of the club...It is easier to play draws, fades, low and high balls with a hybrid plus it easy to hit..I favor the Ping g5 hybrids

  2. me personally cant hit my 21 degree hyrid but 150 or 160 yards and slice it or fade it. i hit my 21 degree 5 wood 200 yards and straight i like the feel of my 5 wood better. even if i do hit my hybrid well it doesnt compare. i would try both of them out and see which one of them works the best for u.

  3. 3, 4, 5, 6 irons are hard to hit if you are an average golfer.  I would recommend some hybrids to replace at least the 3 iron.  It should shave at least 3-5 strokes.

  4. If you can hit the hybrid, go with it.  I have been using a Taylormade Rescue 22 degree for about 3 or 4 years now.  I replaced my 5-wood with it and will never regret that decision.  The hybrid is a fantastic club to have in the bag.

  5. 3 hybrid is really easy to hit.

  6. I have the Bobby Jones 17 degree hybrid and love it. Straight and far, and it lands soft every time. Check your swing speed to get the proper shaft. I would go with the five wood because there is more opportunity for good shots with this club. Ive found that hybrids less than twenty degrees are useless out of the rough, but the BJ 5 wood is not.

  7. Since you have a three iron already I would get a two iron hybrid. I just purchased a Ping G10 Hybrid and hit it with some amazing accuracy. I love the new G10s.

The two iron will give you some more scoring distance.

  8. From a distance perspective, 3 hybrid should be equivalent to your 3-iron.   So if you're looking for a tweener club for your Driver/3Iron gap, then I'd recommend a 2 hybrid or a 3 wood.

That being said, I'd look at the Taylor Made Burner series.  I love my 2H, and I know of others with the Driver and 3W and they tout their love as well.

  9. Personally, I would go with the 19* TaylorMade Mid Rescue Hybrid.  Depending on swing speed etc. the 3 hybrid should be 10-20 yards longer than your 3 iron.

I like my hybrid so much that I am replacing my 3 wood with a 16* TaylorMade mid rescue.  I now have, for my long game, my R7 driver, 16* & 19* rescue hybrids then 4-pw. With my set of Cleveland wedges I'm good to go.   Good luck.

  10. “between my 3 iron and driver” No 3-wood?

It really depends on if you need more distance or not.

5-wood will go farther. Hybrid, between 22 and 17 degrees, will be easier to hit, especially out of rough. 5-wood is not much good out of tough rough.

I love my Nike hybrids, Taylor Made makes some nice hybrids too.

  11. I like Taylormade Rescue Draw Hybrids. They make the long irons a lot easier to hit and not he mention that they are really good clubs.  I have another friend that also likes them a lot.

  12. i favor a plywood myself

  13. If you have nothing between driver and 3 iron I would think you might want a 3 wood or 4 wood.  But if your mind is made up on a 5 wood I recommend the Titleiest 907 fairway woods with TrueTemper steel shaft.
