  1. Go for Blu Ray. The answer came out a few days ago when Warner Brothers decided that it would go the way of Blu Ray. Warner Brothers sells more DVD movies than any other entertainment label......if the elephant wants to go Blu Ray, then the rest of the industry will have to follow.

Check out the source below for the convincer of the other names alligning with Blu Ray.

--edited--  I don't know which bozo has been voting thumbs-down for many of the Blu-Ray responses...but they should read the valid reasons as to why Blu-ray is winning and will win. Warner Bros (the biggest DVD seller) recently chose Blu-Ray...coupled with the fact that Sony's coup with the PS3 helped convince a lot of gamers to go Blu-Ray as well....it was like a foot in the door. Considering Sony lost the Beta/VHS war....this time around they got a little more smart about it. :) But definitely, having Warner Brothers on board is the convincer of which direction the technology will go.

    Good day,

  2. I asked myself the same question this Christmas when trying to decide which one to buy for my boyfriend. I went with the HD DVD for several reasons.

    1. They're waaay cheaper.

    2. HD DVD is made by the same DVD company, which has been around for forever and isn't going anywhere. Where the F did Blueray come from anyway? They could go under like tomorrow.

    3. I got 10 free HD DVD's with the HD DVD player off Amazon!

Caution: This is coming from a GIRL who knows nothing about what all you techno. guys seem hung up on.

    P.S. HE LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

  3. get blu ray, sony is backing it and no one can beat s ony right?

  4. Blu-ray will win this war.  They have d**n near all the studios siding with them.  HD-DVD may be around for a bit but when your favorite movies don't come out on HD-DVD you will then realize you chose the wrong format.  BTW I have 1 HD-DVD becaus eit was a combo disc.  I was going to buy the Xbox 360 add on until the news recently came out with WB going Blu.

  5. HD DVD players and movies are cheaper. However, it is looking like HD DVD will be the loser in this format war.

Blu Ray has more major studio support. Recently Warner Bros. announced exclusive support for Blu Ray.

Blockbuster is only renting Blu Ray movies.

And target only sells Blu Ray movies.

Right now, there are only 2 studios with exclusive HD DVD support. There are 4 major studios behind Blu Ray. And Universal and Paramount (the 2 HD DVD studios) have clauses in their exclusivity contracts that allow them to change their mind if a major competitor (like Warner Bros.) were to change.

Although, to be perfectly honest with you, the best bet is just plain old DVD. Unless you have a HDTV with 1080p output that is larger than 50in., you won't notice a big difference. Just get a nice upscaling, progressive scan DVD player.

Here is one I highly recommend:

  6. If you want to be able to experience the best of both you can buy the Samsung BD-UP5000 Blu-ray/HD DVD Player . It plays BOTH Blu Ray AND BD ... but it costs about $800
