Question:

Should I buy a DVD recorder with hard drive?

I'm looking for dvd recorder to record tv programs on. I'll be recording regularly ie. about 3 hours everyday. I know I can fit this onto a dvd rw, but would it be better to get a HDD? Which would be more efficient? I dont need permenant recordings so I'll just be using RWs.

The things I'm considering are:

-Ease of use because I need to teach my parents how to use it

-How long DVD RWs will last, if I'm recording over them so regularly.

-Cost, I have a £180 budget, which can get a decent dvd recorder or a cheap HDD, but if I dont need a hard drive then I'd rather get a decent recorder.

Basically, do I need a HDD?

  1. Hi Kassi,,

If I were you I would get a DVR. The Phillips has a built in hard drive and a DVD recorder. I like the hard drive because if I don't want to save it to a DVD I can just erase it.

In the US WalMart sells the one I think is the best. I bet you can find it in the UK and it is in your budget range.

Here is a listing on it. Scroll down and read the details - I think it is what you need to get.

  2. That's a tough one.  HDD is certainly easier to use.  RW discs will last a while, but are expensive to buy.   I vote for HDD!
