Question:

Should I buy a convertible crib?

My plan was to buy a convertible crib, w/ matching dresser/changer combo and dresser, planning to spend some money and buy a nice set. I assumed that they would continue being used as my child grew up. My problem is I can't find a dresser/changer w/ drawers that are deep enough. They are all so shallow, there is no way that this is going to work as my child goes through high school.

My mom told me to just buy a regular crib and changer, then buy a toddler bed, then a twin bed... and matching dressers when the child is older.

I plan to have 2 children, but thought I would buy new convertible and matching pieces for each child

What do you think is the best way to deal w/ the furniture situation?

  1. I bought a convertible crib and it was nice all the way through a toddler bed.

But I just didn't think it looked ok as a twin bed. I ended up buying my son a twin bed and am saving the convertible for baby #2.

I do think if you choose right that they are amazing and such a good deal.

you could maybe still buy the convertible crib and buy a desser that matches somewhere else.

  2. It seems like they make more convertible cribs than the old kind that don't convert these days, but I definitely would not spend all that money on two separate sets when you are planning to have more than one child.  I'd buy one good/solid/sturdy crib (don't care whether or not it's convertible) and invest in one great dresser that you can put a changing pad on top and use as a changer.  And when the next baby comes and/or this baby grows up I'd put him/her into a toddler or big kid bed and buy a dresser to go with that.  A little actually goes a long way.

  3. I love my convertible and it saves so much money in the long run!

  4. buy the set for each child just make sure it's a wood that's fairly easy to match to so when they get older you can by a dresser that matches. or try ikea

  5. I got a convertible crib with a matching dresser, changing table and armoire. and that will be enough. The armoire has 2 small drawers for socks and stuff then 3 big drawers for clothes and a place to hang them plus a dresser. I think it has worked out perfect.

  6. i USED TO HAVE ONE.....AT THE END OF THE DAY IT'S UP TO YOU ....BUT I WOULDN'T GET ONE....WASTE OF ££££$$$$.

  7. Nah, seems like a waste to me.

  8. I got a convertible crib, a regular full size dresser and a cheap changing table...in the grand scheme of things a changing table is only used for 2 years....The convertible crib and dresser are worth the investment.
