Should I buy a house that has mold?

Mold was found behind the refrigerator & moisture was found in the other walls. This is a bank owned property & i'm not sure if they will pay for the repairs or lower the price of the home. I have to make a decision by tonight and I am so confused.

  1. If the mold is due to a water leak (pipe or roof), correct the leak and clean up the mold on the exterior of the wall - replace the sheetrock if necessary.  Once the interior of the wall dries out, it won't support the growth of mold, and whatever is in there will die.

If the mold is on a wall that is below ground level (i.e in a basement, or if the house is set into a hillside), then THAT might be a good reason to avoid the house, as the fix for that involves digging, sealing, adding drainage, adding swales to reduce the water reaching that area to begin with, as well as the interior repair work.   That WILL be expensive.

  2. no! avoid it at all costs. mold has been known to get people extremely ill. having mold in your house will give you headaches, nosebleeds, and other dangerous health issues. not only that, but it is hard and expensive to get rid of. not worth it.

  3. yes should be i think, (mold = nice i am call) if you have mold your room look clean and you have screet space for put something, and for repair to make that i think that is a low price, just take out and add some wall.

  4. Mold is one of those risky things. You won't know all the damage and what type of mold it is until you actually get into those walls. It can get pretty pricey to repair walls that have been infested with mold.

For me that would be a big RED X!! I wouldn't be able to take that risk myself.

  5. Keep in mind if there is mold due to excessive moisture on the drywall, it is also on the back side of the drywall.  If it is confined to small areas, cut it all out and replace as necessary.  The mold behind the fridge was probably caused by a leaky ice maker line. Somebody will buy it and make repairs if you don't.  Tough decision, hope you the best!

  6. no it would be alot of work

  7. toxic mold grows inbetween walls and dark spaces where there is water present. i would not buy this home if ther is toxic mold in it. I suffered brain damage from this stuff. Its a disaster to put it lightly

  8. It is extremely expensive to correct a moisture problem of that kind.

I suggest you avoid that House.

There are plenty of good low priced properties around.
