Question:

Should I buy a laptop or a desktop?

Right now I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S3512. It's great and it works well for me. I'm a college student, so I move around a lot. Anyway, I would like to get Photoshop and possibly some other graphics programs. My laptop, as much as I love it, does not have enough RAM or hard drive to support a program like Photoshop.

So, should I beef up my laptop or buy a desktop? I know that I can get more bang for my buck if I bought a desktop. I just don't know if I want to give up the portability a laptop can give.

My current laptop currently has 1 GB of RAM ( can support 2 GB) and a 120 Hard drive. Should I spend the extra money to beef up my laptop? Or, should I just buy a desktop?

  1. beef her up,it doesn't cost much to upgrade your memory and purchase a larger hard drive,go to crucial .com and let them scan your laptop and they will suggest the memory, you can purchase a new hard drive on ebay, make sure that the speed of a hard drive is at least 5400,and make sure that you know if you have a sata,or ide type hard drive that is vital

  2. Beef up the laptop instead. I think laptops are a much bigger advantage because you can take them anywhere you need if needed. You can take it to class, a cafe, etc. If your sitting in a dorm room workign all the time it gets boring so if you keep your laptop you can move around more. I think the best thing to do is add to your current laptop

  3. buy a laptop because it;s the best u can go anywhere with it and not stuck in the house all the time.

  4. 1gb of ram and 120gb hard drive should be more than enough for photoshop; that's really not all that bad (unless you're running vista, then by all means grab some more RAM).

  5. Well in all honesty a desktop is a much better buy. Your a college student and we understand your on a budget but unfortunatly if you want to use graphicly demanding programs then you will need a good video card and its much cheeper to buy one in a desktop then in a lap top.

P.S laptop graphic cards arn't upgradeable.
