Question:

Should I buy a moped or a bicycle?

I'm about to move about 1 mile away from work and it's a bit dodgy walking alone at night; so I'm thinking about getting a moped or bike to get me home. However, I live/work in the city centre of Birmingham (UK) where the roads are busy and congested. I've never driven a car or moped before and never cycled on the roads either! Also, if I got a moped, I would need to pay for parking every day. Can anyone give me some advice please? Thanks! xx Emmie

  1. Bike or electric bike, make sure you spend money on good lights, and invest in some good reflective clothing it will last for ages and car drivers can see you much more clearly than just having a little flashing light.

  2. bus

  3. Buy an electric bike.

No tax and running costs are almost nil, plus it takes up no more room than an ordinary bike.

Buy a good quality one with the latast nicod batteries and it will make your 1 mile commute pedal free for at least two weeks.

They have a 40 mile range for one overnight charge. They have a reasonable top speed that will make you feel less vulnerable than on a pedal cycle and you won`t need any where special to keep it, assuming you have room for a bike.

  4. Well, you will need to do some thinking:

If you are not very fit, or suffer from heart conditions, or any other ailment which would make physical excersise such as biking to work dangerous, you should consider getting a moped.

If you dont mind pedaling in every day and night, you should get a bike.

I have a moped, and it does feel cool going through a city at 30 mph and having the ability to weave in and out of traffic jams is very, very useful.

    Either way, good luck.
