Well, I have 40-50$ on spending on a pet I am useing my own money and I am thinking about buying a parakeet. I don't know if i can afford to take care the parakeet properly (shelter,food,etc..) and i was wondering if you could take care a parakeet with 40-50$? Also do you think they are a good pet for a person who can take care of a pet 30 min. a day? I love any kind of pet i would get but i really wanted a parakeet but i just want to make sure i can make the parakeet happy with 40-50$ of money.. Parakeet Experts, help!

  1. cage:about 20$

    food:about 5$

    toy:about 2$

    bird:about 20$

really, just feed them, and make sure they always have clean water. clean the cage everyother day. play music for the keet when you are gone, and let it fly around the room at times.

  2. Parakeets will stay very busy climbing, flying from perch to perch, and chewing on toys and anything else they can reach. They are intelligent little birds and relatively good at learning to talk, generally easy to tame, and adept at learning tricks. Most parakeets are fairly easy to breed and many can be sexed by sight.

Your Parakeet would be a very easy and the cost to keep it happy is very cheap!

By a big enough cage, does not have to be expenssive, that can fit toys in!

Then buy the cheap $1 bird toys that are specially made for them and walla!   You have your birdy`s new home!

A cage is usually $20 to $15 cheapest! So if i were you i`d save at least ten more dollars! Plus some stores like Petland sometimes have a package deal that if you buy the parakeet there then you can get the cage for half off or 20% off with some toys or the sort!  depends on the store and where you live!

The food for them is really cheap f you know where to buy it!  Petland and the local super market are places where you can get it for cheap!  Walmart is a great place too!

    Hope this helps!  Have fun!

  3. If you can cuddle and scratch your parakeet for 30 minutes a day at least, you're good enough in the "attention" dept. But you need to consider some other things like can you take your bird to the avian vet, a vet who specializes in birds (if there's one in your area) in case it gets very ill? And are you ready to get rid of non-stick appliances in your home, such as cookware and curling irons among other things. They contain PTFE, which if overheated, is unnoticed by humans but fatal for birds. And even a parakeet can live up to 15 years old (often more), and it will be deeply saddened if you abandon it (all parrots are emotional creatures), so are you sure you're not buying it as a "disposable novelty"?

If your answer is yes to all of these, you're most likely going to make a good parakeet owner. But whatever pet bird you want to get, always adopt instead of buying since there are so many good abandoned birds that need good homes, so why buy a new bird and worsen the situation for these poor creatures. Visit www.avianwelfare.org to find the nearest parrot shelter, or look for a bird to adopt from your local animal shelter.

  4. 30 minutes a day he'll get depressed. unless you get him a friend to play with. if you wanna have a happy parakeet you cant just purchase a small cage for $20. it has to be a big one if your never going to be at home... and they hate being locked up so i don't know how that would work for you. and their food is not just $ 5.. its about $7. and plus you cant just feed them seeds their diet should consist of veggies and fruits. and they need baths also.. i wouldn't suggest you get a parakeet because if your only going to give it 30 minutes out of the day then your parakeet will be very unhappy and depressed which will lead to other things. I'm sorry I'm just being honest.

THEY NEED A LOT OF ATTENTION!

  5. You probably do not have enough money.  I am sorry but you have to have a large cage, buy toys, food, and food and water cups and the parakeet costs too.  I am saying is $50 is not enough money and you should spend more time with the bird.

  6. Thats only enough to buy a cage and one other cheap thing. I like to use cages labeled as cockatiel starter kits. These cages are ushually too small for cockatiels without a doubt but they make excellent homes for 1-3 budgies. Tiel starter cages are about 40-50 dollars. They will too dishes. One to hold pellets and one to hold water. A cuttlebone will be needed two as well as a couple WOODEN perches(if the perches in the cage you bought are made of plastic). Not to mention you need to buy a bag of color-free pelleted bird food. As well as a bag of millet for treats and maybe a container of beak appetit to use for a snack.

And toys too! A couple budgie toys will be needed. You don't have to but a bird playgym to set on top of the cage is good to have when you take your budgie out of the cage.

Over all it will add up to roughly about 95$.
