Should I buy a refurbished HDTV as opposed to a new HDTV if I can save $150?

Looking at the 37'' Vizio. It's at Costco for $749 and online at PacificGeek.com (which I've never heard of) refurbished for $599.

PacificGeek: http://www.pacificgeek.com/product.asp?id=49011

Costco: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11285347&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US

To me, it looks like the exact same model, so why should I spend the extra $150? Please give me some honest feedback/criticism. I want to make someone's Yahoo bank 10 points richer! :)

  1. NO. i would never sauggest doing that. the Model Remaker could have done someting funky to it..

also if it was remade that means it was broken... and you donot want to buy somthing that is THAT expensive if it were once damaged.

    :)

  2. I repair tv's for a living and I would not recommend it. 1st I'd like to say Vizio seems to be a pretty good product. There are a few factors you need to consider though. If it's remanufactured, generally the warr. is a much shorter period. Are you saving 150 dollars or after S&H is it much less? There are a lot of website that sell tv's where manufactures won't even honer the warr. due to them being aution places or liquidators or even someone buying and selling used sets. Usually remanufactured means repaired, in other words, just what was wrong was replaced leaving the rest of the set used and in a lot of cases that could easily be 2 years of wear. I would definately go with a new one purchased locally and if resonable, purchase an extended warr. If you decide to get one online, then check the sites legitimacy for warr. purposes.

  3. Check the warranty information.... is your piece of mind worth $150?
