I'm thinking of buying a SunCook Solar oven from http://www.grassrootsstore.com but I want to know how well it works. If anyone has ever used or has one could you please list the pros and cons to having it?

  1. Oh no you can build one cheaper than that if you talking the one I saw on sale for over 200$ Check out my source click"build a solar cooker"

  2. My son went to Walden West Outdoor School in October.  They used one of those (he took a photo of it) to cook brownies.  He said it turn out more like fudge.  It did not exactly cook it well.  It sounds like a neat gadget but probably not worth the money if you need to have things cooked on a regular basis.

  3. well if you have minumum skills like tearing the tin foil off the roll, can tear the tape from the dispenser and know how to obtain a cardboard box,  you can make a simple "oven" and test it out. OVIOUSLY if it is enclosed and the heat is held in the box your items will cook much faster. The length of time it takes for your items to cook will depend on a few things. 1. The item you are cooking. 2. The sun position and index. 3. If you decided to cover your box with glass to keep the heat in longer. Let me assuer you that solar cookers do work but on grey rainy days you still want an alternitive.

  4. pros:

    environment friendly

    free

food taste better than those cooked with gas

can be use anywhere as long as there is sunlight

    cons:

need to wear UV 400 protective eye wear

    depends on sun's availability

    inconvenient

    takes longer time to cook
