  1. Take the free one from the cable company if they offer it for free or for lease (which is usually the case) You do not want to get stuck with an obsolete unit in a year do you?


  2. I have both...   GET CABLE!  It is integrated into the cable box, and now, some boxes have a ton of features taht made the TIVO so good.  Also Tivo no longer accepts lifetime subscriptions, but double check....

    I thought I couldn't live without Tivo, I have 4 Tivo's, but now i cancelled all of them but one liftime, that I bought 4 years ago... and now I have two Cable company DVR's and they are the only way to go.....

  3. Since you are with cable, I would recommend purchasing a TiVo.  What's nice about TiVo is you can buy the lifetime subscription for $300, and never pay for the service again unlike using the cable co's DVR where you will pay at $5.00 for the unit, and $5.00 for the service.
