Question:

Should I buy the Mizuno MX-17 or MP-30?

I have bids on Ebay for both sets, at $125 and $100, respectively. Both sets seem to be in good condition. I'm somewhat of a beginner, so the MX-17 seems a better bet than the 30 as they seem easier to hit. Which set is newer and a better value? I plan on using the clubs for awhile, so don't know which ones I should get.

  1. it depends on how good you are, the MX-17s are more forgiving and dont have as much distance, and the MP-30s are a little less forgiving and give you more distance. Overall they are both very good clubs.

  2. Although the MP-30s are by far the better looking of the 2 sets, they are aimed at very accomplished ball strikers, and as you pointed out you are a beginner, they would not be suitable.  The MX-17s are aimed at the game-improvement market which would suit you much better.  If you want the lovely feel of forged clubs, you can try find a set of Mizuno MX-23s or MX-25s.  They are forged game improvement irons.

  3. The mX17 will mbe the club for you. If you are a beginner that is. The mp-30's are for single digit to mid handicappers. Not a guy still working to break 100. both are a rippin deal, so take both, and use the mp-30;s when you get better. That is what i would do.

  4. I play the MX-19's and absolutely love them.  They are very similar to the MX-17's.  I would definitely go with the 17's for now since you are a beginner.  Also, spend the money you save on the clubs to get them properly fitted.  I had my clubs fitted, and my score has improved 15-20 strokes in 3 weeks.  Good luck!
