Question:

Should I buy the SV650s or get a different bike?

I am going to be getting my first bike tomorrow. I have looked around a lot and think that I like the SV650s the best. I want something that would be good for some city driving and also some longer, like 3-4 hour, driving. There are going to some times when I have someone riding on the back but that's not going to be that often. Is this the bike I should get or is there another that would be a lot better?

  1. Not many better, especially for beginners. Other models out there but no V twins.

  2. i have an 07 sv650 and its real nice it gets like 50mpg and will  go about 110 mph

  3. I am going to be purchasing my first bike in either August or September. I've got a lot of buddies at work who are big time into biking and are track addicts. I wanted to get a V-Twin sportbike (or as close to a sportbike as I could go). The SV650 really is a perfect fit; and was heavily recommended by everyone here at work.

Not sure what your riding experience is, but if this is your first bike, I'd say sure...go for it. At least thats what I'm being told. Make sure you take the MSF course though.

  4. the sv is an awesome platform. very comfortable to ride and lots of usable power with the vtwin motor

  5. Excellent bike. great beginner bike. For people taht want more, they will perform! There are racing clubs for these too. With a bit of work and money they will go alot faster. Some i have seen do 180mph on the tracks. Daytona banks.

  6. Buy the SV650, its a great bike for hauling a passenger

personally I like the Yamaha FZ6 better, but its not comfortable for a passenger.

another bike to consider is the Kawasaki 650 Ninja

    Suzuki SV650S:

    73.5 @ 8750, measured hp @ rpm

    47.1 @ 7250, measured torque @ rpm

    11.87 @ 110.0, corrected quarter mile, sec @ mph

4.44,  top gear roll ons, ( 60 to 80 mph in high gear per sec )

    429,  wet weight lbs

    Kawasaki 650 Ninja:

    64.8 @ 9000,  measured hp @ rpm

    44.7 @ 7250,  measured torque @ rpm

    12.06 @ 108.79, corrected quarter mile, sec @ mph

3.58, top gear roll ons, ( 60 to 80 mph in high gear per sec )

    441,  wet weight lbs

    Yamaha FZ6

    93.8 @ 12,500, measured hp @ rpm

    43.9 @ 10,500, measured torque @ rpm

    11.30 @ 119.4, corrected quarter mile,sec @ mph

5.09, top gear roll ons, ( 60 to 80 mph in high gear per sec )

    461, wet weight lbs

  7. Consider the DL-650 V-Strom by Suzuki.

On a long trip having a windshield in front of you will go a long way toward having a comfortable ride.

If you decide to buy a V-Strom, look at changing the windshield for better airflow and less buffeting.

There are many riders that use the DL-650 for cross country rides.  There are lots of accessories available including hard or soft bags.  The DL-650 has a more upright seating position, again a plus on long rides.

    Good Luck
