Should I buy this TV?

I have a friend that says he bought a LCD tv about 4 years ago and it has been sitting for about 2 years.(Everything works he just got a bigger TV) And he said he paid 2000 for it new and he says I can have it for 500 It's a 37' Phillips I believe. So is this a deal or a rip off?

i would say save that 500 dollars and put it towards a better tv. samsung or sony. there going to give youyour best picture.

i work at sears in the electronics department and phillips tv are not even in the top 5 as far as picture and sound.

but if you dont care much about the picture quality id say go for it. but hope it doesnt break...

Borderline. 37 inch LCD TVs start at about $600 for the "mystery" brands, but a name brand (like Philips) start at $800 even now.

If you do consider it, then make sure it has a digital tuner, since TV will be turning off analog next year. Don't want to be left behind.

Also, LCD TVs have a limited lamp life of about 100,000 hours. A TV that old and watched by somebody who paidf that much and was willing to upgrade after 2 years probably watches a lot. It could be getting near the mid point or latter end of it.

Well, it's your choice. I probably won't pay more than $400. But if it's a good friend, swaying a bit might be okay.

If it's 4 years old then its not a 1080p.  1080i probably.  I wouldn't buy any Phillips TV's.  I fix TV's all day every day and Phillips would be the last thing I'd buy.  Why?  Because when they break they are a pain to repair and the technical assistance is ---hmmm---burdensome.

$500 will allmost buy you a brand new 37" JVC.

BTW--Phillips do have nice pictures when they are working.
