Guys I want to purchase this surround sound system: KEF KHT-3005 (black). I went into my circuit city and they had a used display model sitting there for sale. It was for $759. It was kinda scratched and dirty but I thought, heck, I probably wont look at it once its in my room...they also throw in those $200 rip-off stands for the d**n thing. Should I buy this system when I can get a brand new one off circuit city.com for 999? It does not include the 200 dollar stands but c'mon thats way more than I'd ever pay for stands, I'd probably go to amazon and find an off brand name. What do you guys suggest? Also, any AV receiver suggestions?

  1. if you plan on getting the warranty any way. why pay more if you get home and it does not work  off the back return it to the store. that $140 savings will take care of the warranty and your gas.

  2. Buy new, demo units like this have been horribly abused by a mongol horde of customers. Even at mark down they are no bargain.

  3. Dont buy KEF. They are very low-end.

    Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR605 - $350

Onkyo has come out with some lower-priced receivers with features that you have to spend over a thousand dollars to get on other units.  The 705 receiver is on several "Recommended" or "Best of the year" lists.

Add a 5 or 7 speaker system, small sub and a DVD player (like a PS3 or xBox) and you have a system that will last for years.
