Question:

Should I call Orkin, I have roaches?

I have been getting roaches lately, and recently I did put out roach baits, whenever i see a roach i spray it with raid. I have a toddler and a cat. I'm thinking about calling Orkin however I spoke to other local pest control companies and they said it would be best to take everything out of my kitchen cabinets to spray and then go outside with my cat and toddler for an hour because of the fumes. Would I have to do the same with orkin or even terminix? I would rather just take stuff out from underneath the sinks and then clean my other things slowly or as I need them. I also have roaches in my garage and I also put SEVERAL roach bates in there.

Also after putting out these roach bates and/or getting my home sprayed will this cause more roaches to come out to die?

  1. I agree that you should talk to Orkin at least.

Try spreading diatomaceous earth or boric acid under your sink too: Both are dangerous to roaches, and the earth at least is not dangerous to the cat or baby.

    Good luck!

  2. it sounds like you are using the baits that are in disc form, if so go with the gel baits (if you are dealing with German roaches ) you can place the bait where the roaches actually live such as around the hinges of cabinets, tracking of the drawers around the appliances. I would stay away from the large National companies as well as any small company that insists they will spraying the house for German roaches so that you have to exit. Ask your friends and neighbors who they use and trust.   If the roaches are the outdoor types coming in, the treatments will be in the entry points of the home and should be with odorless products so that once again exiting the home is not a must.

when a house is properly treated (baited) for German roaches, you will still have activity for several days then you will start to see a decrease in the activity, remember if you use a can a raid and it gets on the bait the bait is useless....for the outdoor roaches, the liquid used to treat outside and inside has a "flushing" action to it that insects can also detect so it repels them and may not allow them to hide where they had before.  I let my customers know that they probably will have some roaches come out after I leave and for the next several days after the treatment they will have dead and dieing roaches on the floor to sweep up

  3. Call 1.888.ORKINMAN (1.888.675.4662) or Terminix 1-866-224-4661 and ask them the questions instead of asking here.

Why waste your time here waiting for non expert answers (just bunch of BSs) when you can make a simple phone call to an expert and get the right answers you need right away? Good luck!
