Question:

Should I call it a Rehearsal Dinner?

Due to a very tight wedding budget, we have decided to have a very casual, low key "rehearsal dinner" at Lucky Strike bowling alley and instead of incurring a large cost with a full meal we wanted to do something like desserts (i.e. make your own sundae, brownies, pudding, chocolate covered bananas etc.) Since technically its not a dinner, what should we call it so that our guest will know that they will not be eating a meal? Thanks in advance!

  1. you keep using the term ''DINNER'' with dinner there is substance to be expected, meat, veggie,potato..or fish..salad,etc..

it is not a dinner anything......................Call it what it is...cheap

only kidding...lighten up dudes and dudetts....send invitations

Print your own personalized invitation to read...something like this.

              YOUR NAMES=======                    ALLIE & Babba

are hoping for a sweet life together, and would be honored if you would

join us in our sweet fest...........lots of goodies..............only requirement....bring your sweet tooth.and celebrate our lite sweet fare

[i.e. make your own lucious sundae, chocolate covered strawberries

    and ,puddings, brownies,.FRESH homemade whip/creame,

lots of goodies you'll see-------------don't forget.....                                                 chocolate covered bananas

All u eat will be ''SWEET''

  2. Hi.  You don't really need to call it anything if you don't want to, unless you are sending out invitations.  If so, you could go with "rehearsal celebration" or "rehearsal party" or "rehearsal dessert party."

However, what time is your rehearsal?  I am all about low-key events, but, just like everything else, if this is at a meal time, then people will want to eat more than brownies and pudding.  If this is late enough (after dinner)....then NO problem!  Enjoy your desserts!  Mmmmmm....

  3. If there will be invitations to it, just say rehearsal with snacks or something, otherwise, if it's all word of mouth, mention there will be dessert served.

  4. Rehearsal Dessert & Bowling Party :-) Sounds like fun.

  5. I agree rehearsal celebration sounds good and maybe state in the invitation that there will be dessert and games so people know what to expect.

  6. A rehearsal dessert

  7. lucky strike....is that a common bowling alley name? there's one near where i live in bellevue, wa.

either way, i'd call it a "rehearsal bowling party" or just bowling party will do!

    good luck!

  8. Bowling Alley?  For real?

  9. A rehearsal party.

  10. something like "Post Rehearsal Celebration" or "Rehearsal Dessert" would be good.

I think this is a great idea for something low budget and low key.  :)

    Have fun!!

  11. LOVE Lucky Strike!!! You can call it a Rehearsal Dessert, then they won't expect dinner. Or a "Sweet" Rehearsal and say something about it being followed by dessert. Or a Rehearsal with Dessert Reception to Follow. You could say "Get your Just Desserts after our Rehearsal!" or something cheeky like that too. If you replace "Dinner" with dessert you can just about use any wording.

    Good luck and have fun!!!

  12. we had ours in a college bar. still called it a dinner

  13. How about a rehearsal party and state on invite, deserts only or horsdevours only. That way your guests know to eat a meal before they attend.  There's certainly nothing wrong with that.

  14. I would still call it a rehearsal dinner so as not to confuse guests. I was thinking of things like "rehearsal party" but if I saw that posted on your website or something, I'd be confused. Just be sure that you elaborate and say that it's not technically a dinner, but light desserts will be served. You may want to recommend that people eat a small meal before they come to your rehearsal in case the food you service doesn't fill them up.

Very cute idea, though. Bowling with close friends is always fun.

EDIT: You know what? I changed my mind. I would call it a "Post Rehearsal Celebration." That makes more sense, and it's pretty self explanatory. Hope that helps :)

  15. I would call it a Rehearsal celebration because your celebrating you didn't die during the rehearsal XD

  16. no you can't call it a rehearsal dinner. just say join us at the place of ceremony to rehearse our wedding and then you are invited to bowling alley for dessert. something along those lines

  17. If you are having the rehearsal anywhere around dinner time and then immediately going to this dessert only gathering, that could be a problem.  You see, if your guests come the rehearsal without eating and then you only offer them dessert, that is in really poor taste.

    I would suggest this instead:

Have the rehearsal in the late afternoon if possible, then have a two hour or so delay between the rehearsal and the gathering.  Make sure you either put it on the invite or tell everyone by phone that you will only be serving dessert at the gathering.

If you cannot have it in the afternoon, then you should tell everyone in the invite or by phone that they are invited to the bowling alley for dessert on you, but there is a snack bar for them to actually buy a meal.  That way they know they have to pay for it themselves.

You cannot call it a dinner!

  18. It may just be your version, but it is still a rehearsal dinner.
