Should I call my business my own name?

My surname is O'Mahony. I am worried people won't be able to pronounce it righ. It is Oh-mah-honny, not o-mah-hone-e or o-mar-nee.

  1. I wouldn't call it by your name, but not because of the pronounciation.  I'm thinking more of security issues.  If you advertise on the internet, people can track you to your home easier if they know your name.

  2. Not usually advisable.  It doesn't give anyone any idea what you do and it's not so easy if you want to sell on the business at a later date - too personal.

Yes, you're right to worry about the pronunciation and also when you're giving the name over the telephone.  If there's anything that can go wrong with it, it will.  Choose a name that's easy to remember and spell and is relevant to what you do.

    Good luck!
