Should I call the police?

Down the street from my house, there is this dog who always gets loose. Its a huge hound. And I can't walk my dogs past that house because it jumps the fence and chases my dog. Its happened twice. And you have to go past that house to get to the park and walking path. And once when I was getting into my car the dog ran up to me and started jumping. But I needed to leave and as I was driving away, the dog followed. So I stopped and waited for the owner to come and get the dog. But I dont have time to be waiting for people to get their dogs. And the second time I was walking my dog, the owner was stading right there and didn't stop the dog. Then as is it was following me and my dog, he didn't come get the dog until like five minutes later, so I was stuck standing in my driveway waiting with this dog. I'm planning on getting another dog soon, a husky and I'm afraid if I walk it past that house the dog will jump the fence again and fight with my dog. My other dog is smaller. But I dont want to stop going to the park because a dog is getting loose. This is crazy! What should I do?

  1. I think you should approach the owner of this dog and tell him about this problem.. He/she should take care of his dog and dont leave it chasing other dogs/people..

If he/she didnt do anything about it, then you should talk to whoever responsible in your country to control this.. whether its animal control or whatever !

  2. The owner probably doesn't know your bothered by his dog.  I would talk to the neighbor first.  If that doesn't work there is probably an ordinance in your area (township or city) about dogs.  I would call them directly to make a complaint, not the police.

  3. I dont think the police can do any thing. You should call Animal controll right away. If you wait for somthing realy bad to happen you could be the one in trouble.

  4. Most law enforcement agencies have an animal control officer that takes care of these types of situations. Here in VA they can be charged with "dog running at large" or other statutues. You could always call your local law enforcement agency's non-emergency number to ask to speak with someone about the problem.

  5. First, try to talk with the dog's owner. Let him know about the inconvenience.

If the inconvenience continues, take pictures or video (better) and call Human Society, they have procedures to stop the situation.

If the Human society is different in your location (!'m in California), so, call the police.

  6. Video tape the incident and sue for negligence, fear, terror and whatever else you can come up with that might sway a judge or jury...  Plus the money is always better in tort law. lol

  7. That sounds pretty annoying. I think the only thing you can do is go speak to the owner of the dog first and perhaps tell him that he needs to control his dog better, if he doesnt do anything about it then perhaps let the police know, may be a bit extreme, as it sounds just like an excited dog, or perhaps you could use something that might deter it from you, like one of the high pitched sound things that only dogs can hear, obviously this would only be when you dont have your own dog with you.

  8. Got a video camera? Tape several instances of this dog getting lose. Document it for the proper authorities. Oh, and buy a little thing of pepper spray.
