I just bought a pair of Line Chronics and i was wondering if I should center mount the bindings. I am usualy in the park but I also enjoy skiing down the normal trails too. I live east coast.

  1. The ski design would balance best by putting the boot sole mark on the balance point mark on the ski. If you move more than 15 mm forward, you will loose the pressure you need on the shovel for skiing forward.  If you use a railflex binding system you can adjust your mount with a few minutes of time and a screwdriver.  All within the +/- 15mm range, mounting the system other than the center balance will defeat the design properties of the ski.   When you choose your binding, check the ramp and how you balance best in your boots. Too much heel rise will throw you off balance in rails and landing any aerials. THis can be adjusted by a shim under the toe piece or the heel as you want.  Also check for cants and good footbeds. Good luck.

  2. Way to go on getting the Chronics.  I'm assuming that you got the 2007/2008 Chronics?  http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/2008-Line...

If so, the mid-sole line marked on the ski is around 5.5cm back from true center.  I would suggest that if you spend around 25% to 40% of your time in the park, you should mount them on the suggested mid-sole line; if you spend more than half of your time in the park, I would think about mounting your bindings anywhere between 3cm forward and 5.5cm forward (being true center).

From the sounds of your description, I think you'd like the suggested mounting location on the skis as it will carve better on ice, but still give you a great park feel.  Take the previous stuff I said into consideration, but I think you'll be pleased with the way the Chronic rides regardless.

    Enjoy.

  3. Going more towards true center all depends on how much park you do.  The more park, the more towards center you want to be.  More towards center will help you land tricks switch, and will help in jumping.  However, you will lose some ability to carve well, which is pretty key with East coast conditions.  If you spend 75% of time in park, you should go center mount, anything less go off center.  Definitely talk over exact mm's with your ski tech.  Lastly, if you are sweating it, go for the center mount, and just buy a 2nd pair of skis!!
