Question:

Should I challenge this man to a duel?

I have recently become aware of a man of my acquaintance who has besmirched the honour of a lady. I shan't detail his incorrigible acts of beastliness, suffice to say that he now has a satisfied smile on his face.

Anyway, it would seem improper for me not to seek restitution for his misdeeds in sullying the lady's good name. Are duels legal in the UK and if so, are there any rules which I can refer to online?

  1. Dear Sir,

you should, of course, throw down the gauntlet as commoners say and as any gentleman will do.

The problem in my humble opinion resides in both the quality of gloves you may find and the perception of the offender.

You will agree with me that a knitted and coloured wool glof (or glove, as they say) will be less significant than a formal scented leather glof.

The rules are as usual:  I guess you will follow the 1777 Code duello and not the more classic Gelli Code (so Italian) nor that thing published in the Southern Colonies by John (sic !) Lyde Wilson.

Meanwhile pistols are vulgar, and I strongly suggest the use of  sabre.

You need your seconds, a good choice for the field of honour,  good blades, and that's all.

  2. You can't say Labour hasn't changed somethings.

  3. You can check out, "RulesonDuelsUK.com for official regulations.

  4. Are you thinking that they may not have been made officially illegal so you would be able to start a massive ethical countrywide debate. Well that would bring this individual under public scrutiny and wipe the satisfied smile off his face wouldn't it? Might be cool to find out and try!

  5. Have you thought about challenging  him to a thumb wrestling match?

  6. I hope the satisfied smile is due to giving this lady a good shagging. And you sound like a limp wrist.Maybe it would be safer for you if you chose not to duel with the guy. He would probably clean the floor with you.Anyways,Can I have the lady's number?I'd like to smile too.

  7. Legal shmegal, a gentleman should not worry about such trifles, challenge with impunity and may your aim be good and true.

    Me, I'd kill the b******!!!!

The rules can be found here:

  8. As far as I know they are now illegal, but why worry about that. Is it to be pistols, or swords?

  9. Yes!Issue a challenge!Custard pies at dawn!

  10. Well if they're not legal I say you start a movement to bring them back.

Good Lord how thrilling! Duelling in Hyde Park over the honour of a lady!

If men in the West were still allowed to do sh**t like that they would not need to invade other people's countries in order to expend their excess testosterone!

I'm all for it. Start a petition and I'll sign!

  11. Sir, What century are you on?
