Should I change to the iPhone 3G?

I already have the iPhone 2G (1st Gen), should I buy iPhone 3G? And no, I can't upgrade as it's jailbroken? But is it worth the money, when I already have the older iPhone. Also, if I am to change, should I choose the iPhone 3G or Blackberry bold? Or any other suggestions? Like BB or iPhone.

  1. Well that kind of depends on what you're going to use it for.  If you love texting, and that's the main point of your phone, upgrade to the BB.  Obviously you've experienced the iphone keyboard before on the 1st gen, so you know what it's like.

I love the iphone for it's realistic display of webpages.  and if you live in a highly populated area, it's likely to have 3G, which is advertised at twice the speed.  Believe me, upgrading from edge, if feels like about 5 times the speed.  It's worth it if you browse the web a lot from your phone.  Keep in mind that the data plan for the new phone will be a hefty $30 bucks on your bill each month for the 3G, instead of the $20 for the 2, but I suppose that's the same for the BB models too.  That's at&t for ya.  I recommend the iphone myself.

  2. Well there is a class action lawsuit against the apple 3g phone, because of the terrible 3g reception, so theres no point in getting it because it has 3g.

the bold is hands down a better phone.

    better bluetooth

    better multimedia support

    installable third party internet browsers

full qwerty destroys touchscreen without haptic feedback any day

    better email

    voice dialing

    removable battery

    video

    mms

the 3g iphone does not have enough perks to consider upgrading from the first gen

  3. This is a toughy.  I personally like the iPhone because it integrates the iPod touch with a phone, it is convenient, and it just plain looks cool.  On the other hand, the iPhone lacks some vital features that I can not do without. For example, video, voice dialing, mms, etc.!  I mean come on, why not throw in the ability to send a picture?!  Even most free phones can do that!  This is why I would get an iPod touch and a BlackBerry.  Preferably the BlackBerry Bold.

But in regards to whether you should upgrade to an iPhone 3G, make sure you are in an area where there is 3G coverage.  My are does not have AT&T 3G, so it would be pointless to pay more for no 3G.

Here is the coverage map for AT&T:

So, All in all, I'd say that if you are happy with the iPhone, then keep it, and even upgrade to 3G if you would like to have faster speeds (given you have 3G coverage in your area).  If you would like MMS, voice dialing, video, etc., then upgrade to the BlackBerry.
