Should I check yes or no on the civil service application when it asks can they ask my employer about my work?

I will be applying for a position in local law enforcement in the state of Alabama. On the civil service application it asks: "If presently employed, are you willing for us to ask your employer about your work? YES or NO If no, state your reason. If I check yes, how likely are they to ask and what are the potential questions they may ask? If I check no, does that look bad, will it disqualify me for a position, and what should I put for my reason? Should I talk to my current employer and ask him to be nice or not say anything at all?

  1. .   If you check No,  you would have to say that the employer does not respond to any requests for information.  Only say that if it is true.


  2. If you really don't want them to call, just check no and state your case.

    Edit: The employer you have should they ever start drafting again probably won't be the same one you have now...
