When watching blu-ray movies on my PS3, should I be choosing Linear PCM or Bitstream as my Audio Output? When I select bitstream, the screen tells me that some sections may be left out, but I think bitstream sounds better.

In case it's important, I use a digital optical cable, not HDMI. My receiver doesn't have an HDMI input.

  1. Use Bitstream, since it is multi-channel Dolby Digital or DTS.

PCM is just 2-channel audio. What audio format you select should have NO effect on your screen size .

  2. in  your case.. the bitstream. you actually lose audio if you use PCM because your not using the HDMI. If you connect via HDMI then PCM because it can output the signal at a high enough speed to be decoded into its proper channels.
