Question:

Should I coach next year or not?

I have been a juco assistant volleyball coach for 2 years, going on my 3rd. This year, I have noticed that the head coach is not respecting me as much and what I have done for his program. I really enjoy doing what I do, and it's obviously not money that would make me stay. But is it worth it to put up with being disrespected by the boss while still doing what I love to do?

  1. If you're not happy, you're not happy.

But, if this coach is respected in coaching circles, I'd learn as much from him as possible while I'm there.

I know Bobby Knight is probably a jerk to his staff, but I'd put up with his antics to learn some of his coaching style. You know what I mean?

If your head coach is not very knowledgeable and not very respected, it may be possible that you have outgrown him and he knows it. Maybe he's putting you down because he realizes you are better suited for his position.

  2. I would agree with some of the above.  If the head coach is knowledgeable and respected, stay with the program.  But I would be looking elsewhere as well.  If the coach is not very knowledgeable or respected, I would be ready to move on.

Since you love coaching, keep doing it.  You just do not have to keep doing it at the same school.

    Good luck.

  3. if you really like doing what u do then stay. maybe you should let the head coach know how you feel. good luck!!
