Should I come to Toronto for college?

I want to move out of the states for college, so I was thinking why not Canada!

I don't want to move to far away from home, so it's not like I want to go to Europe or anything.

So yeah.. Toronto?? Should I go? Should I not?

I'm really a party type of girl, which university should I go to? I was thinking UofT, is it hard there? Are there good parties?

Ok I know that college isn't for partying but I can balance both, it's what I do here. I just don't want to move away from home and regret it.

Please help..!

  1. Well I do not consider it to be a party school but it is downtown so there will be lots of stuff to do.

I think it is hard actually. Either that is just my high school counselor scaring me but it is hard apparently.

  2. U of T is not really known as a party school. That doesn't mean that there aren't parties going on, but it's not like a typical "party school" in the American sense, like a University of Wisconsin or UTexas with frats and roaring house parties and the like. The one benefit of going to school in Canada is that the legal drinking age is 19 in Toronto. That means that you can hit up Toronto's nightlife, including its varied clubs, legally and without having to worry about fake ids. But, as others have said, U of T is a pretty demanding school and it's difficult to get good grades, so that's something you should take into consideration.

Have you considered McGill University in Montreal? It was actually rated one of the top party schools by Playboy Magazine I think, but is also a respected school internationally in terms of academics and research. You don't need to speak French to go there.

  3. As others have said, UofT is a top notch research school and is very academically demanding. The student base on the whole tends to be nerdier, however there are so many students there (60-70000 I believe) that you are bound to meet cool people as well.

Toronto has an excellent nightlife though, with many clubs and bars and a drinking age of 19.

If you really want to party especially though, and also get a good education, I suggest McGill in Montreal. Montreal is a crazy party city, biligual, and has an even lower drinking age of 18.

  4. I agree with some of the other answers. U of T is definitely demanding. You'd have to study pretty hard to get good grades and you can't be partying all the time. I'm not sure if U of T is the best place for you. You can consider going to Ryerson? I don't know what it's like there, but I'm sure it's less demanding and it's in the heart of downtown Toronto so you'll have fun :)

  5. U of T is a pretty demanding university, but there are also good parties.  :-)  We have a good club scene here with lots of summer festivals and live music.  My recommendation would depend on what you want to study - York is great for some subjects, and sometimes isn't as demanding, but it isn't downtown, either.

  6. Toronto is awesome.  The clubbing district is crazy every weekend.  Have you concidered Ryerson University also?  Depending on your program, it can be less demanding than U of T.
