Should I completely drain my camcorder battery before charging it again?

That depends on the type of battery.  NiCad batteries need to be drained before they are recharged.  If you've got a fairly modern camcorder, the chances are that it has NiMh or Li-ion batteries and these don't need it.

It's the exact opposite - you shouldn't completely discharge a Li-ion battery.  They don't suffer from the memory effect but they do degrade over time - completely discharging them makes this worse.  Have a look at the link for advice on looking after your battery.

it is always a good idea to drain any rechargable batteries before recharging, your battery does not last forever and as time goes by the amount of power it wil hold will be less
