Should I continue accounting or switch to english?

I'm just about to finish up getting my accounting degree. I'm not sure If I'll be good in the field of accounting but I am considering going for my bachelors to hopefully get a better understanding of it. I've also been interested in writing and teaching for sometime now and looking to switch gears and major in English. However, I hate to read but I love to write. Which field would be more lucrative? What jobs could you get with an English degree. Is finding a job as a teacher in English difficult? Should I just stick to my accounting track being I'm already half way there?

Go for English if you want to be a professor or teacher.  The jobs outside of the education fields for an English major are limited (ie. newspaper editor, writer, etc.)

There is very HIGH competition for English major jobs.  Expect to relocate for jobs because the prospects in a single area will often be slim to none.

Accounting will make it VERY EASY to find jobs with good salaries.  You can pretty much pick where you want to live and find a job nearby.  While accounting can be boring at times it's a very good career choice for someone with a life first - job second lifestyle.  Plus, it doesn't matter what industry you are in, they all need accountants.  Railroads, hotels, airlines, biotech, computer companies, retail stores, etc.

It's truly where your passion lies.  Being in education has it's perks (summer breaks, work from home grading/etc) but for education you'll probably want a Master's degree or higher.

My advice = finish up the Bachelors in Accounting and you'll always have a good solid degree for the working world.  If you decide to go into education, you can always go back and do a Master's Degree in English or some other area of education.  And you can be versatile enough to teach some business classes as well.
