Question:

Should I continue running while on Ciprofloxacin?

I'm a 34 year old male just diagnosed with Prostatitis. The Dr. put me on Cipro 500 mg BID for 30 days. Otherwise, I'm healthy.

I'm training for a marathon and am aware of the possible side effect of increased chance of tendonitis on this class of drug. Should I continue running as I have been, or would I be taking a really huge risk? I haven't been able to consult him yet.

  1. Honestly? I would. Doggie is right, you should consult first, but if I were you, I would go ahead and keep running!

  2. This is a matter where you really need to consult with your physician ans s/he has acccess to clinical information that can help guide this decision.

Rather than go into a detailed discussion on the hazards of fluoroquinolones as they pertain to tendon pathology, it's really something for a discussion between a physicain and a patient.

Without formally being familiar with a patient it'd be foolish to engage in a serious discussion of this as it pertains to a given patient.
