Question:

Should I continue to work during my last year of high school?

I currently work at Winners and I'm thinking of leaving as I'll be doing my final(and probably most important) year of high school. I'm going to be taking all the sciences and maths as I'd like to get into medicine/engineering, however I've heard universities appreciate students who can balance work and study at the same time. Like anyone else I don't mind the money :D, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Should I work during the school year or is it more beneficial to just focus more on my studies?

  1. i think it would be more beneficial to focus on your studies. however, you could try to do the 2 for a while, and see how it works out. if it's getting to stressgful, ask work if you can scale your hours back a bit. that way, you'll have time to study, and a little extra money.

good luck, and enjoy your senior year - it goes soo slow and soo fast!

  2. The college I went to looks very favorably on students who are able to balance work and study at the same time. When I went for a tour, they said that although straight A's are good, they would rather see A's and B's both with a job and extracurriculars than all A's with no job or extracurriculars. It all depends on what you can handle. Maybe you could work very part time (maybe one day a week) until you see how things are going. Your college applications probably won't ask how many hours a week you're working, just whether or not you have a job. But remember, school comes BEFORE work. If you begin struggling and can't keep up with your classes, the job needs to go. Good luck and have a great senior year!

  3. No, you can work the rest of your life.  If you have already worked some, you can state that on your applications.  This is really your last year of little to no hard core responsibility.  Take an advantage of that and enjoy your last year.  After this, it is no nonsense.

  4. Honey, you are going to have your whole life to work. Why start so early!  Think about it...

  5. Have you considered just working on seasonal?

Like just working the xmas season?

    That might be better.

But the first answer is good too, you know what you can and cannot handle, just give it a go.

  6. I think you should start the school year off with work and school. If you can manage to keep your grades while you work - then good for you. However, if you find that your grades are slipping then you might have to make the decision to let the job go.

There is no reason to make the decision today - give both a try and then decide.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your Senior year  :)
