So I am a 30 year old male and the girl in question is 24. She (lets call her mary) and I just had our 2nd date and she told me that mary's mother was a severe alcoholic when mary was growing up. She mentioned that it was really bad and her mother moved out of the house when mary was jusr 12yrs old. Even though Mary seems really nice, and seems to have dealt with this issue emotionally...I wonder that there will be some personaility issue down the road. Any help?

  1. Get to know her she may not be like her parents at all.... If I judged my boyfriend on his parents I would have ran fromhim away a long time ago.

  2. Well, if what you want is a psychologically perfect human being with absolutely no past trauma, you don't want Mary.  But if you want a person who has shown some resilience in dealing with life's troubles, she sounds fabulous.  I'm more worried for Mary's sake than yours, frankly.  Only your second date, and you're already judging her based on this.

  3. Its only the 2nd date and ur judging her please give it time en time will tell trust me

  4. get to know her - why judge her because of something that her mother did. Just because her mom did it doesn't necessarily mean that she will do it.

p.s. my dad was an alcoholic and I turned out just fine - not one. Have 3 beautiful daughters and my husband, along with a good job. So don't think that just because her mom is one and has issues means that she will be. It may have motivated her not to drink or do anything else like that.

  5. She may be a lot better off than her parents.Give her a chance if not you could be ruining a beautiful relationship. You never know.

  6. WELL THE ALCOHOLIC IS MARY'S MOTHER NOT MARY SO GO FOR IT...

  7. Alcoholism is NOT HEREDITARY..........it is a learned, coping behavior and is NOT GENETIC as far as I know.
