  1. Personally I am against de-clawing a cat. Not only is it painful to the animal but it is potentially dangerous if the cat were to get out of your home since it would be defenseless in a fight. I would take it to your vet to get its nails trimmed as far down as is healthy for the cat. Usually once the nails are trimmed down significantly it is practically impossible for the cat to hurt you if they scratch (I know this because when we got our kitten his claws were trimmed down to little nubs and when he tried to bat at us while playing even with his nails extended it would not hurt at all).

  2. The cat hates you.  Get ove...wait...what?!

  3. Get the cat a scratching post.

  4. my cats declawed in the front,

i felt bod but it sstopped her from scrathing me to death.

  5. Depending on which country you live in, that may not be a legal option anyway.

Rather than think about declawing, think about training.  Kittens and cats normally want to please, and if you let them know it is not acceptable to scratch, it will lessen and perhaps even end.

As such close quarters, a squirt bottle probably won't work.  There are a couple of approaches.  Pointing a finger at your cat when he does it and a firm NO! will often get his attention.  If you feel confident enough, gently grabbing his front paws and saying NO! will certainly get his attention when he tries to scratch you.  If you can't get his paws, a very gentle bop on the nose and the word NO! can work.

You don't want to punish him, as he doesn't know better, but you want to let him know it is wrong, and you are unhappy when he does it.

  6. How about going into a room without the cat? Gee, that was hard.

Do you realize what goes into declawing? It's not a simple removal of the claws but a full blown amputation of healthy toes. Declawing a cat means removing the entire first joint/bone of each toe. It'd be like cutting our fingers off at the first knuckle. Declawing causes extreme pain to the cat and often problems down the line (litter box issues from associating the litter box with pain after surgery, personality changes/biting/and skittishness from having their first line of defense removed, arthritis from having to learn a new way of carrying their weight etc.). I hear people say all the time "better declawed than in a shelter", but in actuality many declawed cats end up in shelters anyway because of the behavioral problems many experience after being declawed.

Did you know it's illegal and considered inhumane mutilation in most countries outside the U.S.? I've personally observed a declaw surgery at a vet and it's not a pretty sight to watch a vet take guillotine nail clippers and lop off parts of toes... very barbaric looking (laser removal has less healing time and pain, but really isn't that much better in the long run). Please don't put your furniture over your cat's wellbeing, it's just selfish. Declawing has no benefits to the cat, only the owner. There are numerous alternatives including scratching posts and surfaces, sticky tape, deterrent sprays, Soft Paws nail caps, and nail trimming. Please read more on this awful procedure before you consider it:

Edit: I figured it was probably a troll post but answered anyway. I see the "humor" now that I read more thoroughly.

  7. Remember that many people are against this act because it can seem inhumane. Have you looked up declawing? There are some things about it that could change your mind. For instance, the claw is a big part of your cats protection. If you're going to put it outside and it has no claws, it has no way of defending itself if it gets in trouble. The claws are also a part of your cat's toes, which is what they walk on. Its very painful for them to have to walk around after surgery!

Just check out some websites to see what you think. If you believe that you should do it, go ahead. Just make sure you check out what you're going to do.

There is also an alternate. You can go to petsmart and buy these tips that you can put on your cats claws which should help. They last a very long time and even come in a variety of colors (so you can dress your cat up, eh?)

Best of luck to whatever you do. :)

  8. I think de-clawing is cruel personally. It would be like someone chopping off the tip of all your fingers. De-clawing should only be used in extreme cases of scratching, or if there's a child involved. another option is a Tendonectomy, which is the removal of the cats tendon in the front two paws, making it so their nails won't retract. good luck

  9. Get your cat Nail Caps/Soft Claws. Or trim his nails more frequently. Declawing to many is inhumane.

Here's the link to Soft Claws:

Or you can try just being for firm with your cat and carring a spray bottle too. Good luck and please don't declaw.

  10. If you're warming up your sausage, the cat's gonna want some Action.

My little kitty liked flicking it until it bled, and she too had to be de - clawed - with an orbital sander as I hate nail clippings in bed.

The dust has yet to settle, and the cat has yet to learn how to walk properly again.

  11. Ouch! Sounds like he needs a scratching post.

De-clawing should only be used when your cat could seriously injure someone.

If your cat's claws are very long and stick out even when sheathed, try clipping them.

Kitty training seems to be in order, and you can also have the vet put on temporary plastic bits so your cat's claws won't do any more damage.

  12. Don't be pathetic - call yourself a man?????  I help to look after 20-30 cats 3 days a week and have yet to die from a few scratches on my thighs.  Mostly the cats do it because they are happy so I just thank God that they are and deal with the pain silently.

    Toughen up.

  13. NO! when he does that, you just tell them in a loud firm voice NO and remove him from your thigh.

Don't ever declaw a cat. That is their defense system if they happen to get out in the yard.

  14. No, he's only doing it to save your eyesight just ask mom.

  15. PLEASE don't!

    Its horribly inhumane.

You MUST read this entire website.

After that, its up to you.

  16. I'm personally not in favor of declawing.  Make a loud noise when he scratches you (like a loud "NO!" and clap your hands).  You can carry a spray bottle around with you for awhile too.  The idea is to startle him.

It's also not hard to clip your cat's claws.  If he's not used to it, get someone else to hold him by the scruff while you clip him.  Do it once every week or two and even if he scratches, at least you and your pants won't get hurt!
