Should I ditch my fridge&stove!?

Question

ok. Well my fridge and stove are about 13 years old. And the stove is 13 years. There GE profiles.

The fridge constantly leaks through the bottom. And has been having the simple problem of keeping food cold. But the freezer is having no problem. *side by side*

the oven is just plain g*y. The stove on top works perfectly. Meenwhile. The oven. Dosent even turn on.

Plz help. If you could. Could you please please. Suggest a trustworthy and spacious new fridge brand.

I would say it's time to get rid of them if you can..You will just feel so much relief when you don't have to put so much work in to keeping your food cold and being able to cook food in the oven (which can be so much healthier). You can maybe find some good deals on Craigs list or at a garage sell... If you have a ABC warehouse in your area, you can get a very decent price on these items. I moved last year and got a new stove and fridge (on clearance) for $800...Try looking on there website.I have a Frigidaire set (black). Everyone loves it. I also had a leaking fridge and I feel so much better not having to deal with that and worrying about my food spoiling.Good luck.

That is probably one of the most important things you can have in a kitchen - it's certainly the key to eating healthily.

I imagine that the grill doesn't work either?

I would seriously suggest that you replace them both...

As people have said, you are wasting power, effort, spoiling food and creating a mess that you have to clear up - all for the benefit of having shoddy appliances.

IF you decide to get rid of them, please, please get rid of them at the proper place (ie - not fly tipped in an out of the way place, ruining the countryside and costing someone else money to pick up something you could've disposed of for pennies at the local dump.).

You could even donate them - people without a fridge or oven will be grateful to have anything...

Though, most companies that install new cookers and kitchen appliances will also remove them for you as part of their service and dispose of them properly.

What matters more than the brand is the space you have to fit it in.

The best place to start looking is at kitchen show rooms.

There you can find expert advice on each appliance and inspect both fully, measure them, even try them out!

Remember - just because they're working on commission and pushing the hard sell doesn't mean you have to buy it, if you feel it is too expensive.

But now you have the exact fridge/freezer and hobbed oven that you want.

From there you can search many places such as http://www.gumtree.co.uk or http://www.craigslist.com for the same make and model appliance and see if it is for sale at a reasonable price second hand.

There are also many shops and showrooms that will offer second-hand, reconditioned models of everything you see that is brand new.

I have a Frigidaire FL265 as it has a LOT of storage capacity and fits perfectly in my kitchen, in looks as well as size.

I have never had a problem with it, except opening it into my partner's face accidentally one day...

(I didn't know she was there! It was 3am!)

Smeg are a good brand, as are Zanussi or Whirlpool - the last two offer good storage, come in a variety of sizes and styes and are more affordable than their equal, more expensive counterparts that sell because of what they look like.

Whatever you decide - please make sure you dispose of the old ones correctly.

It depends. How long you've went without the appliances. If your fridge hasent been cold. Get rid of all meat and spoilable foods.  Also. I would suggest looking for a new fridge. I suggest a samsung fridge. They rockk! Oh and if you want a little diy job. If you get your freezer empty*rember

to unplug it* there should be some metal coils*on your model  they look like something you clean an oboe with. If there covered in ice. Hit them with a hair dryer.

If they do not work properly, you are wasting energy, money and food keeping them. toss and buy some new ones if you can afford them.

Well, your fridge and stove do have a little age on them. ;) Have you called to get a quote on how much it will cost to fix? It may be worth it to ditch them and get a fridge and stove that match.

I just bought a Samsung french door bottom freezer refrigerator, and I LOVE IT.  It's so roomy, and I dont lose stuff in the back of the fridge!

Have you tried vacumming the dust from under the fridge/or Back of the fridge? Sometimes this helps.

It sounds like it would be worth your while to get rid of the appliances. You might be able to repair them, but chances are good that it would cost more than new things.
