  1. Yes always with a spotter, never try to bench by yourself

  2. Please don't. There are plenty of guys at the gym who can spot for you and you can do likewise. Don't take the chance of hurting yourself...then you'll be off lifting for a long time.

  3. SPECIAL K....I'VE BEEN WORKING OUT FOR 25 YEARS, NEVER HAD A SPOTTER..JUST MAKE SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO LIFT THE WEIGHT,,,DON'T TRY YOUR MAX WEIGHT,,,OR ASK SOMEBODY TO SPOT YOU....WHAT I DO IS I ALWAYS WORK CHEST WITH MACHINES,,,HAMMER STRENGHT...OR ANY OTHER..THAT WAY YOU CAN GO AS HEAVY AS YOU CAN WITH NO DANGER.

  4. Yes of course you can bench without a spotter.

Whats all this c**p about "no you cant."

Your fairly new, so take it easy and don't try to advance too quickly.

Obviously a spotter is better because you can bench to failure, and then bang out one or two extra doing the rest pause method. This means being able to work beyond your limits.

Without a spotter you'll need to use a lower weight and rack the bar before exhaustion. That's if your doing 5x5 3x10 or whatever combination. This will mean you won't make as good gains but gains can be made nonetheless.

Not all body builders or lifters go to a gym. Good gains can be made from a home gym. This can be the difference between good gains and great gains.

You do need to know your own limits though, so start light and very slowly increase by small increments each time you bench.

    Good Luck and good gains!

  5. i do it without a spotter but stop if im unsure i can do a rep or not

ifi no i can i will....just do what you can do if you cant do try it...but if i do have one ill put a **** load of weight on and try it and usually get it but yeah...just try it if something goes wrong then flip the weight to the side of you and make it look lik nothing happened

  6. Special K, yeah you can do it without a spotter, if you want minimal gains. I don't do steroids, and my bench press numbers are 335 max, and 225 for 18 reps, yes 18. However I've had days when I got stuck with 2 plates on 10, you never know when you're energy is gonna surprise, you, wait i can get this for 15, it's hard at 9, nah i can get it, oh c**p. I've embarassed myself twice getting stuck under the bar, luckily I wasn't injured. Look for another guy working out by himself. In 10 years of training I've only had people decline twice, one guy said he was dizzy, the other said the weight looked too heavy (I've had my 110 lb girl i work out with spot me, you dont need to dead lift it). 2nd issue, using a partner you can do forced reps which can make your gains explode beyond just failing at 10 or worse less since you can't even take your sets to failure without a spot. Now as for how to properly spot, that's another question. If i dont know the person well, I just say, no lift off, and only help me if it's coming down on me. Good luck!
