Should I do cross country?

I am an eighth grader and I am a cheerleader. There are tons of sports at my high school and I would love to try some others. Cross country is coming up and so are cheer tryouts. I have to make a decision fast. I don't love running but I would love to be in that kind of shape and have that endurance and stamina? Should I try it or stick with what I'm good at?

  1. um, it depends on what you want. if you feel that you could achieve something big in cross country then go for it. but if your only doing it to lose weight or get a good body then just stick with your cheering. but i say go for it coz cross running is totally awesome.

  2. Yes you should

  3. Yes I think you should because it keeps you in shape and fit. You can also improve your running skills and win in races against your friends!!!

  4. I'm a runner and have been running for 8 years. You should follow your heart, not what you are goot at. If you are going to run, I would recommend the following:

I would strengthen the core: calves, quads, hams, back and abdominal (the "six pack" muscles along with the obleks), chest and arms. But when strengthening these muscles, I would focus more on the muscle endurance not the muscle bulk. For more advice for this, I would consult with a personal trainer. For the running part, I would stay flexible as it helps/contributes to your balance (so do the muscles in your core) but also helps prevent some injuries like pulled muscles and shin splints. Also, I would try to make up a schedule where you can run for X amount of days and try to have a long run. I would start off slowly, running about 2-3 miles per run for the first week and increase my mileage per week. Make sure you have the following: a good diet, hydration, sleep, a good sense on how to take care of your body, and sleep. Good Luck!!!

  5. cross country is an awesome sport, i dont really love running but i love the competitions and it will definitely keep you in shape. its also a great team sport, our team is really close with each other

  6. dont stick to cheerleading. expand your bounderies. im in eighth grade and i did cross country last fall and i loved it. i wasnt the best in the group but you can always find a friend your speed! its a great way to be social becuase your able to talk to people and get to know them during your workout (i made friends with almost every girl on the team!) and its one of the few co-ed sports so we'd always try to run along side some hot highschool guys! unlinke track, you get a great change of scenery, seeing the leaves change colors in the woods or running on city streets. most meets are on saturday mornings and those are fun even if your just running along someone cheering them on. and in my opinion, x-c girls were less air headed then cheerleaders. my friend was able to do x-c and cheering at the same time. just know your schedule!

  7. just stay with cheer if u dont love running and you can just run on your own.  I feel that track is a waste of time since yo can do it just as easily on your own

  8. If you don't love running, then I wouldn't do it. you should be doing something you love. If you want a little taste of xc then go on a nice long 5 mile trail run. it's a good feeling, but personally if your hearts not in it then I don't think you would enjoy it. but it's your call.
