I'm about 55 pounds overweight and I do have a belly. Its not huge but it is big. I do plenty of cardio and been losing quite a few pounds. My question is, should I even bother with crunches to tone myself or should I wait until I lose a lot more of this stomach fat?

  1. Actually crunches doesnt really help you lose weight. Lift weights. The more strength you have, you will lose weight faster.

  2. Wait.

  3. Sure why not. I was 90 pounds overweight and I did what I could handle without hurting myself. Worked for me okay. I never got sick or ill or felt damaged or anything.

  4. I think you should, it will help you tone up sooner.

  5. yea u shouldn't cuz doing crunches wont burn fat just make u ab muscles bigger

  6. You can do crunches and water aerobics is great for taking off inches.

  7. yessssss!!!!!!!!! i had a belly lost! i did cardio and classes at the gym lost pound in a couple weeks

  8. yeah crunches are good. id also check out '8 minute abs' on YouTube-it hurts the first time but its not too hard and you do get results

walking daily is another good way to start off

  9. Do the crunches.

  10. work in a routine for both... as you lose the weight you will also be building up your abdominal muscles

  13. both

  14. No. However if you want to lose belly fat you have to do cardio, otherwise, you will have a rip ab underneath the fat.

  15. Yes. Do sit-ups too and then run so much Forrest Gump would be proud!

  16. no...well...u could just exercise (like run, jog , or even walk)

then...afterwards u could go do the crunches if u want to...

btw after reading ur question...i should start do crunches myself...lol...dont hav flat stomach anymore :'(

  17. no.

  18. any kind of a workout is good for you so i would suggest doing crunches as well as your regular workout

  19. stop eatin bars of solid FAT if you are overwight.

  20. crunches dont burn fat they do burn calories but not a signifficent amount i suggest six small meals a day and cardio exersises such as swimming, jumprope, bike, etc stay away from sugars transfat, eat oatmeal, greentea, tuna, seafood, anything high in proteins, grains etc

  21. Crunches will help a little, but really the best way to lose that belly would be to eat smaller meals more regularly and increasing your daily activity. That means burning a few extra calories doing the day-to-day stuff. Move your wastepaper basket from next to your desk to across the room, for instance, and make yourself get up and walk across the room to throw it away. Little things like this will help a lot. Also, eat a larger, carbohydrate-heavy meal for your first meal of the day, eat what you would probably consider a medium-sized dinner for lunch, and have a light meal of fruit, cheese and some non-fatty meat like skinless chicken breast for dinner, with small snacks scattered throughout the day when you're hungry. The most important tip is to make sure that you never eat until you feel full. Eat a reasonable meal that still leaves you feeling a little hungry when you've finished the last bite and wait a few minutes. If your hunger subsides, then you've had enough to eat. I hope this helps!

  22. Start now. Every little bit helps. When you do crunches your muscles will form under the fat. But at the same time you should be doing cardio to lost that fat. You can do it :) I used to be overweight but incorporated crunches and other exercises into my day and lost 30 pounds.

  23. you should start now

the only difference is that you wont be able to actually see the tones you make if you have the belly fat

but underneath that fat the tones WILL be there, so when you lose your fat you will already be toned or having something to work with ;P

  24. Well, last year, there was a show in Australia called 'Whats Good For You'. They had an episode on losing weight. They did an experiment on 4 different guys. One did weights only, one did push ups/crunches only, one ran/rowed only and the last did everything the other 3 did, but not as much. The results were:

Weights - Only good for muscle

Crunches - Only good for abs

Running - Only good for weight loss

All in one - Good for fitness.

The moderation of all 3 types of exercises will have you gaining weight at first, but because muscle weights more than fat. Eventually, you will start losing weight.

To lose weight, you should keep your heart rate higher than 65% for at least 20 minutes. This ensures that fat is being used as an energy source. And to get your heart rate at 65% doing crunches, you'll need to do it basically non stop.

  25. Yes.  Crunches not only help to build abs for show, but they also help you overall in a number of ways.  If you strengthen your core muscles, those around your stomach and back, you may also see an increase in your overall endurance.  That will allow you to do more cardio.

Additionally, the more muscle you build, the more calories you burn at rest.  Even if you can't see it yet, you still have those muscles--and they will help you achieve your goal.

People say you can't put on muscle and lose weight at the same time, but it's not really true--you just have to work at it.
