This is an excerpt from an email I sent to a friend because I didn't feel like retyping the question on hear. Some backround information: I'm a freshman who is also doing basketball and softball and I'm thiking about Swimteam. I enjoy swimming and i did it for 7 years but the last two years or so I haven't done it because I didn't have any friends/ the coaches sucked on this different team but the highschool coach is good. Also Annie is a friend of mine who is begging my to do swimteam with her..

So I might be doing swimteam.. yepp Idk I always liked swimming to a point and i feel bad letting Annie down. But putting beside the facts that I haven't swam in years, my old racing suit is proabably to small, I haven't gone to any recent practices so therefore I'm proabably not as much in shape as the other kids, and yeah well lets see.. If I were go tomorrow which sorry annie I still need to talk this over with my mom but tomorrow like eveyr other day of the week they of practice at 8-10 and nope doesn't end there but also 3-5! TWO TWO HOURS SESSIONS! Ouchh.. I'm sorry but I don't like swimteam that much and although I've never been the type to put down something just because it requires hard work but when school and homework comes along swimteam will be before school at 6 and right after school till 5:45! Umm crazy! I mean I'm already doing two sports and I want to excel in the grades catergory not to mention get used to the whole highschool thing and to balance swim team on top of that? Idk I'm still thinking about it. I mean annie said that the girls are really nice, the coach is nice, and that I'd fit in fine and I believe all that but Swimteam is a commitment.. And its one I'm not so sure I want to make. but who knows. Tell me your opinion.

  1. if you already arn't wanting to do y do it because you arn't gonna try your hardest but if its something you truely want to do thats a different story..   i have a pretty booked schedule too so if it means adding to an already packed schedule i would seriously think about if you want to practice for swimming, basketball, softball, and whatever else you probably do.  i wouldn't do if personally but its whatever you decide

  2. It sounds like you already have a lot on your plate. Putting your studies first seems like the best idea right now. If Annie is the good friend she seems to be, she will understand that you already have other commitments and priorities. Jut tell her the truth instead of dancing around the issue. It's as simple as saying "I'm sorry I can't do this with you, but I need to make sure I have enough time for my homework. I am already involved in other sports and feel I will be stretched too thin if I add another."
