  1. what is backyard MMA?first off you have to get into shape first because ju jit su is all flexability, and endurance, the second thing is you can get seriously hurt when just street fighting in your backyard, these MMA fighters you see on UFC get checked completely by a certified Doctor before a fight and more importantly after a fight ,you don't see chuck liddel laying in the back hurt and what he needs to get looked at by the MMA Doctor,i heard of a boxer once who lost a brutal fight ,left the ring on his own nobody thought anything was wrong ,when he got to the change room ,he collasped ,went into a coma and died!the injury was a blood vessel bursted after being hit so hard but it ruptured on his way to the shower!the other thing is you can't learn proper techique from a tape of a UFC fight ok!those techiques you see on the UFC,are about 1/10 of what you have to learn about ju jit su,or kickboxing.so if you are serious about learning these arts then i would suggest you take a trial lesson from a ju jit su or kickboxing pro who has a good reputation before you commit to learning these arts long term ok?but to answer your question you should learn both and more because one is for close in fighting or on the ground and the other is a standing up style that cannot work on the ground!you tell me which is which!by the way the referees in the UFC are also fighters themselves so they know from experience when a fighter is in serious trouble and to stop the fight but in your backyard what if someone puts you in a choke hold and you end up dying because your ref didn't stop the fight in time?learn from a pro before you start using it to actually fight what you are doing right now is street fighting not MMA!how many techiques do you know?

  2. Both. You need a well rounded knowledge of stand up fighting and ground work. If you focus on just one you are going to get dominated. Find a well rounded style the has both stand-up fighting and ground work. Check your area for a MMA gym to train at.

  3. both are good if you want to become a mma fighter but the real ultimate ground game you should train is catch wrestling look it up it is the ultimate

  4. It all depends on what style of fighter you are.  If you like to take it to the ground then wrestling and jui jitsu is the best.  If you're a stand up fighter, then i would go with the Kickboxing.  But the best of all would be to learn both and become an all around fighter!!

  5. MMA is just that mixed martial arts. So therefore look for one that offers both. One or the other just isn't good enough anymore. Kenpo(originating in Hawaii) and Jiutsu Kai Blend has served me well.
