Ok my moms friend , Kelly wants me to do show jumping with her horse . I have known her horse Tiny for quite a while now . She wants me to do it with Tiny cause she just got a new horse to do jumping with but still wants to show Tiny . Tiny would be like my horse only I would just get to ride him and I wouldnt have to clean out he stalls or any of that . The only bad thing about this would be I'd have to be there every Saturday for practice . I really love horses and I dont actually have one so this would be a great experience for me . Im 13 so am I old enough to do this ??? I know how to ride a horse . Should I do it or not ? Cause if I dont someone else will get to do it with tiny .

  1. Age definitely doesn't matter so I wouldn't worry about that. I for example have jumped small fences ever since I was 8. It really is up to you if you want to show. I myself would jump at the chance but that is just me. It would be a great experience for you especially if you are jus learning the sport. just make sure before you start that your form is corresct and you are confident on the horse going at the walk trot and canter. If you have never jumped before take it slowly so you can build confidence and so you learn the correct way. start by troting and cantering over poles while in a 2 point and then raise the poles off the ground so you can really feel the horse lifting its body. once you are comfortable with that then I would move on to small jumps start off with one jump about 12" off the ground and get comfortable with that and then move to higher jumps with larger spreads and combination of jumps. you said that you would be going to a practice every Saturday so they will probably teach these things to you there. If I were you I would give it a go and see if you like it. It should be pretty fun. hope this helps!

  2. Well, before you even think about jumping, you need to learn the basics.  Find a good instructor that can give you riding lessons.  And, you'll need to ride more than once a week to be competitive in the show ring.

And, thanks Rags to Riches...there is a HORSE section under Pets.

  3. This is the horse racing section.

  4. I think you should-and going to ride 1 once a week is not really enthough if you want to show, you are diffenitaly old enthough.

If you dont own show clothes you need to buy some.

PS Rags to Riches where else would you put it?

  5. why is it bad that you have to be there saturday?

if youre not committed, dont do it

  6. If you're in complete love with horses and ready to commit, you shouldn't be questioning yourself :)
