My first meet EVER is this thursday.

I had to join track late because of papers and such.

Because of this, today was my first practice.

I had been training on my own for a little before though.

I had to pick 3 events to do and I picked

200m, relay, and long jump.

My time for the 200 is 36 seconds. I know its not that good but I'm only in 7 grade.

Do you think I should still do the 200 in the meet?

also do you have any tips for it? what does leaning into the curve mean?

  1. 36 is really bad. i run a 28.

    no dont run it.

  2. I think you should.

Just know to dip your shoulder in on the cure than go into second gear on the straight a way

  3. yeah you should still do the 200m. Leaning in the curve means as you go into the curve you lean your body toward the curve

  4. 1. it never hurts to try have confidense in your ability and go for the gold and if you dont win who cares.

    2. leaning into the curve is a track term used to tell runners how to run

to lean into the turn is while your runnying lean your body left

it will be easier to keep running and will shorten the sitance of the run by a couple inches

  5. well i do the 200 too and 36 isnt that bad but if ur not happy u can do the long jump thats fun

  6. I hated the 200.  I'm in 11th grade and I did track for a few years.  Yeah, you should do it for the good experience, and even if you come in last you'll get better.  Leaning into the curve means to lean towards the inside of the track as you run.

  7. Go ahead. Just sprint the whole way even if you're tired. I just got back from a meet, actually. My best time is probably something like 27 seconds. IDK what leaning into the curve is, but I'm sure google can easily solve that.

    You in hudson valley area?

TO THE DUDE THAT SAYS TAKE LONG STIDES!!

Don't. Not when you're sprinting, any time spent in air is slowing you down. Take many quick steps (like you would regularly sprint)

  8. for being in 7th grade thats good and u should do the 200 meters. i am pretty sure leaning into the curve means when u come of the blocks stay low until like the 50 meter mark and then come up because leaning down cuts wind and for some reason it makes u faster.

  9. Do anything you feel like doing. There is always someone there who is more nervous and slower than you (thats what I tell myself). Remember to take long strides and kick your legs even if you feel tired.

  10. definately.

i ran to 200 relay and long jump in 7th too! it means that you are wasting less energy and you have a faster time (you'll learn about that in physical science freshman year) but lean your body to the inside of the track when you go around the curve, and push yourself until the end, not slowing down until you pass the finish line. and on the relay make sure you've had practive with switching the baton between people because if you don't have any you might get confused and fumble it and eveyrone will get mad at you (happened to me hah)

    good luck!!

  11. do the 200.

just use this as experience, if you dont come in first its fine.

see what a meet is like

  12. i would do it i mean it cant hurt. if anything it will make you better just for the experience of it. and leaning into the curve means a slight lean in your body as you round the curve. if you do this correctly you should feel centripetal force and it will feel like something is pulling you around it. but this takes alot of time and practice. also when you lean you dont want to lean at your waist too much because that will effect your running form. try leaning from your hips and let it be a very relaxed, slight, and natural lean.

i hope this helps and let me know how you do in your events.
