I am going to be a senior in high school and am beginning to think about leaving home. I am not sure though. I am afraid I may dorm with people that either I may have problems with or may not help me focus in school.

  1. Colleges have you fill out a survey in which asks you your preferences and then they try to match students with the closest match. Some college have dorms set aside for study intensive dorms in which it must be silent after nine pm. There is also a type of dorm college "wellness housing" which means it alcohol/drug/smoking free. See if the colleges you are interested in offer these.

    Good luck!

  2. Living in a residence hall while in college can be an amazing experience, even if it is a bad one.  It allows you to learn about yourself, and how you interact with others.

Most colleges and universities require you to fill in a questionnaire which they will use to place you.  Do they sometimes make mistakes?  Of course, but this is what a Hall Director (HD) or an Resident Assistant (RA) is for.  These are the people that can help you change rooms, or help you cope if changing is not an option.

I didn't move on campus until second semester freshmen year.  I am so glad that I did, it literally changed my relationship with my parents and my life!

  3. College is not only for getting a higher education but also to start living away from your parents and on your own. It prepares you for real life with no one standing over you and making sure you get everything done. Sure you may not get along with the people but you will meet plenty of other people that will help you get by and then soph year you can choose your roomate if you met someone you would rather be with. There is also always the library if you cannot focus

  4. You should def. dorm in college! It will give you experiences!  And, don't worry about those people.  If you are having problem u can always switch rooms. but most likely, you will love ur roommates!

  5. that is just part of dorm life. most people dorm for a few years then leave campus. i dormed the whole time. 6.5 roomates per year. we wouldnt come home till we did our work because me and my roomies were in our mid twenties and we liked to drink (no one studies at a party so study before). we all did excetionly well. just be responsable or college is nothin but a $15,000/yr byob party and that is F* stupid
