Should I drink GATORADE or WATER at volleyball practice?

I have been bringing water to all of my volleyball practices, but some girls bring gatorade. I have seen that when i drink gatorade i have more energy, but is water better while playing sports?

  1. drink water b4 so u'll be hydrated, drink gatorade/powerade (whichever) so u get ur electrolytes during practice

    gatorade kind of makes my throat feel weird so i wash it down with water. lol

    you cant go wrong with water though.

    and there are these packets of electrolytes you can put in it if you need to.

  5. Water.  Gatorade has too much salt in it to hydrate.  I would say go for the H2O, but if you need the power drink, go for Powerade, at least it has vitamins!  Good Luck!

  6. It depends on how long your workouts are.  I would only use Gatorade for long endurance workouts.  It's high in sugar and calories.

Both are great to drink for someone who is active, like you.  Drink water while excercising, like during practice.  This will keep your body hydrated.  When practice or a game is over, drink gatorade. This will give you more energy and sugar for when you are done.  The thing about sports drinks is that they give you energy bursts, but then it gives out, so you will feel tired after a while, especially if you are excercising.  You wouldn't want this to happen during a game! good luck and hope this helps :)

  9. Water is much better for you.....Gatorade must taste good ..but if ur practices are hardcore and makes you work hard water will taste so good..trust me i been there..Good luck!!!

  10. I would go with water. I play basketball and lacrosse and  gatorade to me just makes me thirstier. Water always makes me feel more hydrated. Hope that helps!!

  11. gatorade is fine to drink but i dont know why but propel is better gatorade leaves your mouth really dry after a while

  13. You lose salts when you sweat. Gatorade and other sports drinks can help because they replenish that lost saline content. The problem is they also have sugar which doesn't help so much with energy in the long run. Gatorade is good, water is fine too.

  14. If you check the benches for most schools, they have water.  There is a good reason.  Your body needs the water.  The electrolyte loss is overrated.  

    Drink water during the match and practices.  There are several answers suggesting Gatorade type products after the match.  That is fine, but make sure you drink water and more water during the matches and practices.

  15. It depends on how long your practice is, and what kind of Gatorade you're drinking. For volleyball, practices only go up to 3-4 hours max without physical contact. Therefore, Gatorade is preferred because it'll restore salts and potassium back into your system, which will keep your muscles working better.

    Gatorade isn't for all sports, though, like hockey, because you burn out too quickly if you drink Gatorade because of all the physical contact. Make sure if you do bring Gatorade, that you bring enough to last the entire practice or you'll crash and that'll bring your level of play down.
