Question:

Should I drive from London to Spain, or fly then rent a car?

I'm going to be traveling all over Spain, from north to south and then to Portugal, for around three weeks, looking for a place to buy a flat. Would it be cheaper / more practical to drive the whole way, or to fly and then take public transport long distances, and rent cars occasionally?

  1. Hi ,I have driven to spain alot in recent years and would recomend it to anyone however ,to drive to spain and be fresh when you arrive i would say would take a bout 3 or 4 days eachway i think when looking for property it  would be easier for you to fly into spain rent a car from a company that allows you to drop off at different places. 2. It is so cheap to fly. try ryanair.com, easyjet.com, or vweling.com way cheaper to fly.

  3. I would say driving the whole way would be more practical, and the coast route to Portugal is a must. Remember you must have spare light bulbs, medical box, hi-vis top, 2 triangles, a fire extinguisher your log book. From Kent i normally get to Irun (just over the boarder) in 19 hrs (HGV).

    Have a good trip.

  4. If I was you, I'd rent a car. If you're going to be looking for properties, you may not be able to rely on public transport alone to take you to your destination.  Cheaper, larger properties are usually found out in the sticks. Most car hire companies offer cheap rates for 7 day rentals.  Use a trusted company like http://www.arguscarhire.com/.

  5. fly then rent a car here. The exchange rate makes it cheaper for u..

    Take care,
