Question:

Should I drive or fly?

I am planning on moving to California, the bay area, from Dallas, TX. What I am having a hard time deciding is whether to drive or fly. If I decide to fly, then I will have to purchase an airline ticket, which I just priced at about $180 for one-way, and get my car shipped, which ranges from $600-$1000. If I drive, the total drive time is 23 hours without stopping, about 1,500 miles. Also, I will have to stop and get gas and probably stay at a hotel to rest. What should I do?!

  1. You've got no stuff to take with you? If that's the case, sell your car, save the $1000, fly, and buy a new car in CA - California may have stricter emission laws than Texas and you'll have to have work done anyway.

  2. drive since you have to get your car there. you can pack some stuff in your car, too

  3. Well, its cheaper to drive there.......

  4. I am considering a similar decision. i am moving from Ohio to Nevada. I would like to drive to be able to see the sights on the way, but i may be too tired from driving to be able to enjoy the sights. If you have the time to drive i would drive. maybe do about 8-10 hrs per day. If there is anyplace or anything you want to see on the way, stop and sight-see. If money is an issue you will spend less driving. Also, take into consideration the condition of your car and if you want to put the mile, wear, and tear on the car. Good Luck

  5. I would drive.  Do the trip over 3 or 4 days.  It is a pain having a car shipped.
