  1. School bus driver is a part time position. Doesn't pay anywhere near what a City driver gets paid.

  2. I'd recommend driving public transit.  The pay is higher, the equipment usually better, and you get to meet interesting people who aren't all children.  The new technology that's coming on board the buses (AVL, GPS) as well as the route changes (BRT) will make them much more interesting as well.

School bus drivers can limit themselves to "school hours" but there are always opportunities available for extra work. Still, I couldn't put up with all those KIIIIIDS!

  3. I agree with "Squeaky...", definitely transit. Hourly rate is comparable, maybe higher. More hours available, leading to higher earning potential. Most are union jobs, with benefits and pensions. No screaming kids, equipment way nicer. Chance for advancement into Supervisory positions. Just a more civilized career. If you are looking for a fun, part- time way to augment your income while working transit (or schoolbus, for that matter), look into driving Charter or Tour bus. It is a blast, the equipment is FABULOUS, your passengers are great because they want to be there, everyone wins.

Good luck, and welcome to the world of Buses.

  4. Go for the city bus. Who wants to put up with a bunch of screaming kids and nasty parents.
