this is a fairly new unit and notice that whomever installed it heat taped it on the front & side of blower unit in basement but not the back side. when unit is on and blowing I can feel air come through whereever it is not taped? Is there a reason they left this side not taped? Could this be one reason I don't get proper air flow to 2nd story of my home? Should I tape it off whereever I feel air leaking through?

What kind tape?

  1. Abradley has it right here. The common product duct tape is actually not at all suitable for ducts. The aluminum foil tape is available at most big home improvement stores as well as most local hardware stores.

  2. Yes, you should tape it up. It is ridiculous at the things installers forget to do. I would use a tape that they use here. It is an aluminum foil tape with a paper backing. You peel of the backing and stick the tape on. It seals better and lasts longer than duct tape and so on.

  3. the tape is ok    but for your air flow to 2cd floor sealing will probably not help that a whole lot  sounds like you need to have your vents balanced out   someones probably messed with the vent flappers and that would throw off your system
