Should I end a sentence with prepositions? ?

Are these the same?

1)Their ancestors were the franks, Germanics tribes to which Clovis and Charlemagne belonged.

2) Their ancestors were the franks, Germanics tribes which/that Clovis and Charlemagne belonged to.

What's the difference?

  1. Both are correct:depending on "which" .

    Example:

    This is the city in which I live.

    This is the city which I live in.

    It depends if you already use the preposition with "which",you can't end it with that preposition.But if you don't,then you can.


  2. The first one is right.  The second one isn't because you ended it with a preposition.
