Should I exchange US dollars to Euro before or after I arrive in Spain?

I would say after.

Last xmas I travelled to Europe, and exchanged my money in USA and the exchange rate was sowrst than if I had waited to exchange it in Europe.

Exchange half before, something might come up and you might not be able to exchange later.

Put it all in the bank and get a debit card. ATMs don't have a fee for exchanging money (unless you have a withdrawal fee, which is only around $1-3). Money exchangers often take a larger amount of money out. Visa, MasterCard work almost everywhere in Europe.
