Should I exchange my currency here or in Spain?

I am going on holiday to Spain in 2 weeks, and am a little confused over exchanging my currency - some people are telling me it is better to do it here first (which is what I normally do), others say wait until I get to Spain as the exchange rate is higher, etc. Which option will leave me with more Euros? Thanks in advance.

  1. Spain

  2. chopsyturvy, I found a directory of US currency exchanges. http://www.whatisforextrading.com Try calling one of them to see if they have a representative that can assist you.

  3. In Spain with your debit card. (check your bank fees though).

Withdraw a bit at post office so you have enough for your transport when you get there.

If it is a huge amount, order from Travelex, they do special deal for large amount.

A new solution which might be worth look into it is the prepaid currency card. You preload your card in USD or Euros, and then you withdraw with your prepaid Mastercard with no commission on currency exchange. (read the small print).

  5. Doing it in Spain will give you the best deal.

  6. Exchange your currcency, what century is this?  Harly anyone gets foreign currency by swapping pounds for euros at some counter.

Just take your ordinary ATM/Debit card with you, and withdraw it from your bank account.

Don't get mixed up and withdraw off your credit card. Very expensive.
