Question:

Should I follow up in person after applying for a job online?

I've been filling out applications for different jobs online. I've only had one (negative) response in two weeks, no other responses. I know when you apply in person, it's a good idea to revisit the location and ask if they have considered you. However, what if you are applying online and for various locations? What's the protocol for that?

  1. Sure unless the application says not to follow up. "Hi my name is ________ and I am calling to follow up with the application I filed on line for the position  of ________" .  If it's something like a retail store I recommend you go in to apply rather than applying on-lne. I was in retail management for many years (Victoria's Secret, Estee Lauder and Anchor Blue) and rarely did we actually get on-line application forwardeded to us, and when we did I actually  preferreded to interview people who came in to apply rather than the on -line applications. I just got a way better  sence of a person when they came in.

  2. Yes, if you can actually contact the person your application or resume went to.  It seems to take forever to hear about jobs -- even the early part of the review and interview process.  A lot of times these days, jobs can actually cease to exist before anyone even gets an interview. Sometimes a call or even an e-mail can kick things into gear, or at least let you know where you stand.

I do agree with the other poster; if you applied for retail, you're a lot more likely to get hired by going in directly.

    God bless.
